TAG Evaluation & Identification Process

Top Section: Overview
The process is divided into two pathways:
- District Assessment Driven (October – January): Evaluations are initiated by the district using assessment tools and performance thresholds.
- K-12 Referral Driven (December – April): Evaluations are initiated by families, students, or teachers who request consideration.
District Assessment Driven Pathway (October – January)
- Reading & Math Evaluation:
- Focuses on Grades 3–8.
- Uses OSAS (Oregon Statewide Assessment System) and MAP Growth tools.
- Flags the top 5% of students.
- Intellectual Ability Evaluation:
- Uses NNAT (Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test) for Grade 2 only.
- Flags the top 5% of students.
- Notification to Families:
- Families are notified of flagged students and given the option to opt out.
- Notifications occur in December and January.
K-12 Referral Driven Pathway (December – April)
- Request for Evaluation:
- Referrals can be made by a family, student, or teacher.
- Teachers submit referrals for students in Reading, Math, and Intellectual Ability.
- Testing for Intellectual Ability:
- NNAT is administered in January and February for flagged students.
Teacher Actions (January & February)
- Teachers collect the following evidence for evaluation:
- Work samples.
- Classroom observations.
- Qualitative checklists.
School TAG Team Evaluation (February & March)
- The School TAG Team reviews:
- Evidence from assessments.
- Feedback from teachers.
- The potential need for additional services.
Final Decisions (By End of January – End of April)
- January: For District Assessment Driven cases, final decisions are made, and:
- Families are notified via email.
- TAG office updates student records.
- April: For Referral Driven cases, similar actions are completed.
