  • èßäapp¹ÙÍø International Scholars Academy (PISA) is an optional full-day high school program located at McDaniel and Roosevelt high schools. Students who are new to the US within the last three years and have beginning English proficiency are eligible. Students in this program are fully integrated into the comprehensive high school.

    Students may also choose to attend their neighborhood school that has ELD support, but does not have a newcomer program.

    Criteria:

    • Student has been enrolled in a US school less than three years AND is eligible for high school.
    • Student scores Emerging on ELPA21/ Screener.

     

    All èßäapp¹ÙÍø high school students that fit the above criteria may apply to attend the PISA/Newcomer program at McDaniel or Roosevelt as space allows. Contact Chau Le 971-334-9363 at the McDaniel Site and Braulio Garica 503-916-2000 x82365 at Roosevelt for more information.

    The PISA/Newcomer program at McDaniel and Roosevelt High School offers newcomer classes for the core content areas of ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies in which teachers use appropriate scaffolding to make grade level standards aligned content comprehensible for students, while newcomer students take elective and CTE classes with their mainstream peers. The core newcomer classes are for two years. Students then transition to all mainstream classes the following year. SIFE/SLIFE (students with interrupted education) are eligible to take foundational courses in literacy and math.

    The goal for newcomers in the PISA program is to earn a high school diploma or to transition to PCC YES if they will age out at 21 before earning required credits.
