Single Subject Acceleration in Mathematics
Applications accepted March 1st - 31st, 2025
(all applications must be submitted by March 31st)
Single Subject Acceleration in Mathematics is a process that allows students to be accelerated in mathematics instruction by one grade beyond their current grade level for the following school year. Students must be in grades 2-5 at the time of application (for acceleration in the 2025-2026 school year).
Procedure:
- Teacher Consultation and Pre-screening: To move forward with an application, a student should have multiple indicators that they are working above grade level in mathematics. Possible indicators that are readily available (please note Spring MAP scores are NOT required for SSA-M):
- Fall and winter MAP scores for the current grade should be at or above the 95th percentile. Note: grade 2 students do not take the MAP. Classroom assessments should indicate being highly proficient in all domains.
- Winter i-Ready scores should indicate above grade level in the areas of "Algebraic Thinking" and "Number Sense" and be late grade level or above for the other domains.
- Application (completed by family): Families will provide information about the child, give consent, and sign for receipt of information through an online application. The link for the application will be available here on February 15, 2025.
- Data Collection (administrated by school, graded and evaluated by TAG Department staff): End of year assessments for the grade above are required. Students must show proficiency in the major standards of the grade above. Assessments will begin after the application window closes.
- Decisions (completed by District TAG Coordinator): In consultation with èßäapp¹ÙÍø Staff from both TAG and Math Departments, the final decision for SSA-M is made by the èßäapp¹ÙÍø TAG Coordinator.
- Notification: The TAG Department will notify families and share the decision rubric and results letter with families by May 15, 2025.
Questions can be directed to the TAG office through the èßäapp¹ÙÍø customer service portal, Let's Talk or at ppstag@pps.net
