Affinity Spaces and Clubs

Affinity groups
An affinity space is a space for folks of shared racial and/or cultural identities to be in a community together. They provide an important opportunity for people to gather to explore concepts, conditions and experiences based on racial and cultural realities.
There is sometimes a misconception that affinity equals exclusion. The reality is that affinity in a community of shared experiences creates the space for sharing, questioning, learning and healing that can’t always come from mixed group settings.
Part of anti-racist work is creating both spaces for affinity and spaces to come together, with the understanding that both spaces are actively working toward the same goal.
In the 2022-2023 school year, RGMS offers the following affinity spaces:
- Black Student Union (BSU)
- Students Organizing for Leadership (SoL) for Latinx students
- Neurodiversity
- Jewish Student Union (JSU)
- Asian Pacific Islander Club (APIC)
- Indigenous Youth Club (IYC)
- Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA)
Student Clubs
Student clubs can be offered during lunch. Clubs have included topics from Kung Fu, Environmental Science, No Place for Hate, Oregon Battle of the Books, and more!
