Favorite school memory as a student:
How to choose?! Some of my first happy school memories are from kindergarten. My teacher Mrs. Allen, took our class to ride on a public bus and an Amtrak train and, once, even took us on a field trip to her house. She had Brady Bunch stairs! Our class also had a pet monkey - sad for the monkey now that I know more - but wonderful for us at the time. I also miss nap time quite a bit.
My “why” for being in public education:
I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, so I guess you could say it’s a “calling.” When I went to garage sales with my mom as a young child, I would search for teacher’s manuals. For my 7th birthday, I asked for an easel chalkboard. I would invite the neighborhood kids over, “teach” them and give assignments which I would grade and return.
What I do to unwind and recharge:
Sleep, laugh, hang out with friends, laugh, cook, read, sing and also laugh, sometimes at my singing.
