AVID and Academic Rigor
AVID and the International Baccalaureate Program
During the junior and senior years, Lincoln's AVID flock will participate in the International Baccalaureate Program (IB). All AVID students enroll in 1 or more IB classes during their junior or senior years, when those courses become available to them. During the 9th and 10th grade, students engage deeply with the skills necessary to prepare them for successful participation in the IB program. AVID teachers and students focus on WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading) to achieve this end. Both AVID and IB mission statements focus on preparing students for success in college and a global society. The IB Program at Lincoln effectively articulates what that "success in a global society" will look like.
IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organization to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
